Jason Bourgoyne

Director of Operations

Jason Bourgoyne is the director of operations for SMG Knoxville, which oversees operations and event services at Chilhowee Park & Exposition Center; Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum; and Knoxville Convention Center.

Bourgoyne came aboard in November of 2001 when he oversaw the transformation of the Convention Center from a construction site to operational facility. From 2010 to 2012, Bourgoyne managed the building upgrades for energy efficiency, which included projects for two separate solar arrays, lighting, boiler replacement and HVAC upgrades. In 2013, the Convention Center received LEED Silver certification for Existing Buildings from the U.S. Green Building Council, a project Bourgoyne oversaw and implemented.

He began his career in 1988 as a member of the conversion crew at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The PMAC is a 15,000-seat arena located on the campus of Louisiana State University. Bourgoyne quickly rose through the ranks and was promoted to steward by 1994. In 1996, SMG hired him as superintendent of operations and in 2000, he was promoted to operations manager for the Riverside Centroplex in Baton Rouge, La., now known as the Baton Rouge River Center.

Bourgoyne has been a member of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Greater Knoxville since 2004 and has served on the board since 2005. He was president of the association in 2008 and 2012.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from LSU.

Bourgoyne and his wife, Faith, have three children, Zoie, Beau and Tate, and are active members of First Baptist Church of Concord. The Bourgoynes are supporters of Second Harvest Food Bank of East Tennessee, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, Goodwill Industries, Knox Area Rescue Ministries and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
